My name is Travis Anna Harvey. I arrived in Beijing as an English teacher, knowing no Mandarin. Mr. Liu was hired by my company as a Chinese teacher for non-Chinese speaking staff. Due to Mr. Liu’s fine instruction, I can now, carry on daily conversations in Chinese.

I highly recommend Mr. Liu’s teaching capability without reservation. Mr. Liu has always demonstrated dependability, respectfulness, and flexibility, all qualities I think are essential to the role of teacher. He approaches language learning with the wisdom and humor acquired through his own experience of learning a second language, in which he functions fluently.

In my experience as an English teacher in China, I have seen the results of stultifying and proscriptive teaching techniques that are common in middle schools, high schools, and universities throughout China. These techniques usually result in students who can spell very well, have memorized huge lists of vocabulary, but cannot speak the new language at all. Mr. Liu has turned his back to these old techniques and uses imagination and a sense of fun in teaching Chinese. He teaches through the context of everyday interactions, explaining grammar points and introducing new words as they are applicable.
